1. Question: What is a flashlight LED Replacement bulb and why does it not always light up when I replace
the filament bulb with a LED bulb in my flashlight?
Answer: Flashlight LED Replacement bulbs are solid state "Light Emitting Diodes" that replace the old
filament bulb in flashlights. Unlike the filament bulb which will work with either positive or negative voltage on
the tip of the bulb, LED's need the correct battery polarity to light up. The tip on all the Tektite LPR,LS series
and TerraLUX TLE-1F,TLE-1S,TLE-6EX and TLE-6EXB LED Replacement bulbs must be positive. If the bulb
does not light up reverse the direction of the batteries If your LT-3, TLE-5, TLE-5EX, or TLE-20 does not light in
your suitable 2aa or 2aaa Mini-Mag® reverse the LED bulb 180 degrees and reinsert the 2 LED Replacement
bulb leads in your suitable Mini-Mag® and it will light up.
2. Question: Why use a LED Replacement bulb instead of the standard filament bulb in your flashlight:
Answer: The LED is used because they draw less current, very energy efficient, saves on batteries, more
rugged, won't burn out, whiter light,very reliable, last about 10 years, never needs to be replaced, produces 95%
light 5% heat compared to 95% heat and 5% light with a filament bulb, vibration resistant, no filament to break or
wear out, may last longer than the flashlight.
3. Question: What is a "Side Emitter LED"?
Answer: The Side Emitter LED has a hour glass shape above the LED which directs the majority of light from
the LED out the side towards the reflector. This allows you to focus the light beam in flashlights. Your beam will
depend on the shape and quality of your reflector with the side-emitter led.
4. Question: What is a "Lambertian LED"?
Answer: The Lambertian LED is a An optical source that obeys Lambert's cosine law, i.e,peripheralan intensity
directly proportional to the cosine of the angle from which it is viewed. In other words this LED produces a very
bright hot spot or beam with some peripheral light but without the artifacts associated with the side-emitter.
Examples of the Lambertian LED is the TerraLUX TLE-5 , TLE-6EX and TLE-6EXB
5. Question: What is the difference between the Side Emitter and the Lambertian LED Replacement bulbs?
Answer: The side-emitter has more flood and artifacts and the Lambertian has a cleaner brighter white shot.
The lumen output is about the same. The main difference is with the Side-Emitter all the light from the LED is
directed out the sides towards the reflector. The Lambertian sends the light in all directions equally. So the
pattern you see with the Side-Emitter is dependent on the size and shape of the flashlight reflector. The
Lambertian sends light out the front of the flashlight as well as sending light towards the reflector.
6. Question: Which LED Replacement suitable for the 2aa Mini-Maglite® flashlight is Brightest?
Answer: The TerraLUX TLE-5EX EXTREME Lambertian is the brightest LED Replacement bulb at 140 Lumens
followed by the TerraLUX TLE-5 1 watt Lambertian at 50 Lumens.
7 Question: What kind of suitable flashlights do you recommend for using LED Replacement bulbs?
Answer: The Maglite®, Mini-Maglite®, Mag-Charger® and Maglite® Solitaire® flashlights is what I would
recommend for LED Replacement bulbs. The reasons I recommend them is because they are made of metal
(good heat sink for the LED) not plastic and you can focus the beam with them. Plastic flashlight reflectors can
melt if the LED generates too much heat.

Answer: Luxeon® LED's are the brand name of LED's manufactured by Lumileds Lighting, LLC located in San
Jose, California.
